Danish-born guitarist Peter Howard Jensen is considered by critics and the public alike to be one of the finest guitarists of his generation. His active concert and recital career has taken him to the major musical capitals of the world, with performances in London, Paris, Berlin, Milan, Vienna, Washington, D.C., Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, and in New York’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. His latest performance in the Sydney Opera House was played to a sold-out audience.
Mr. Jensen is the recipient of the Simon Spies Foundation’s Musicprize and the King Frederik and Queen Ingrid Grant for Outstanding Achievement in Performance.
One of the remarkable aspects of Peter Howard Jensen’s programs and performances is his total command of all eras of music history. With a virtuoso technique and deep musical interpretation, his audiences are presented with highly evolved performances from the Baroque to the music of the 21st Century.
In addition, he is expanding the role of his instrument in classical music by going beyond the traditional guitar literature and performing transcriptions of works by Bach, Vivaldi, Haydn and Schubert. He recently performed a series of highly acclaimed concerts with the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Quartett Berlin in which the guitar served as the solo instrument of the concerti and quintets in programs featuring the music of Handel, Bach, Vivaldi, Boccherini, and Schubert.
Mr. Jensen is the first Scandinavian guitarist to receive the Professional Studies Diploma at Manhattan School of Music in New York City.
